Spending a few minutes ahead of time preparing for your doctor's appointment is very beneficial for both you and your physician. Before your next appointment, consider doing the following:

  • List the concerns that you want to discuss at your appointment, starting with the most important one first.

  • For each concern, note what your symptoms are, when they started, what you have tried doing to improve the symptoms (such as what over the counter meds you tried, changing your diet, resting, etc), and whether the symptoms have gotten better or worse. If you felt warm, take your temperature and write it down with the date and time

  • Bring an up to date list of all of your medications, including over the counter medications, and supplements. For each medicine, write down the dose and how you take it (for example, Tylenol 500mg tablets-two tablets twice a day)

  • Always be honest with your physician. If you stopped taking a medication, let him/her know and your reason for stopping it. Doctors are understanding but need to be kept informed of any changes in your medications

  • If you went to an urgent care clinic or have seen a specialist about your symptoms be certain to tell your doctor so that this information can be obtained and to avoid duplicating tests

  • If your memory is not the best, it may be beneficial to bring a significant other or relative along to assist with the details and to remember what we have recommended

We want to help you get the most out of your doctor's visit so we really appreciate it when you come prepared!
